If there’s one thing we’ve learned about life and work, it’s this: burnout is real.

Whether it’s late nights rehearsing songs and playing gigs (PX’s world as a musician) or spending hours designing learning materials, storyboarding courses, and troubleshooting LMS issues (my world as an instructional designer), we’ve both had those moments of feeling drained, stuck, and uninspired.

And here’s the truth: no matter how much we love what we do, creativity runs dry when we don’t take care of ourselves. That’s where we found our ultimate reset button— travel. ✈️

But beyond travel itself, we’ve also learned that rest is a God-given gift. The Bible reminds us in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” For us, traveling became not just a way to escape routine, but also a way to slow down, breathe, and be reminded of God’s goodness in the beauty of creation.

Why Travel Works as a Reset

Travel is more than just a vacation—it’s a powerful way to reset your body, mind, and soul. Here’s why:

Ruins of Saint Paul's, Macau

  1. It breaks the routine.
Burnout often comes from repeating the same cycle—wake up, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Travel interrupts that loop and replaces it with novelty and adventure. Even Jesus stepped away from the crowds to rest and pray (Luke 5:16). Sometimes, breaking away from the usual gives space for renewal.

  2. It fuels creativity.
For PX, new environments spark melodies and rhythms he never would’ve imagined at home. For me, the colors, textures, and stories from different cultures often inspire fresh design ideas for courses and projects. And we believe this spark is God’s way of reminding us that He is the ultimate Creator—and that creativity flows when we’re connected to Him.

  3. It builds perspective.
Meeting new people and immersing in different cultures makes you realize that the world is bigger than deadlines and stress. It’s humbling, refreshing, and grounding all at once. When we travel, we see firsthand how God’s handiwork is not just in mountains, oceans, or cities, but also in the diversity of people He created.

  4. It nurtures connection.
Traveling together also strengthens our bond. Shared experiences—whether it’s getting lost in a new city or trying street food for the first time—turn into lifelong memories that keep us going even when work gets intense. More than that, we’re reminded that relationships are God’s design. He created us for community, and adventures are always richer when shared.

Where You Can Begin

If you’re ready to give yourself this kind of reset, start with places that are easy to explore but rich in experience:

South Cebu, Philippines
Here you’ll find the perfect mix of adventure and wonder. Swim alongside gentle whale sharks in Oslob, chase the turquoise cascades of Kawasan Falls, or snorkel through the sardine run in Moalboal. Every corner feels like an adventure, yet it’s still beginner-friendly and accessible.

Final Thoughts

Travel won’t erase the challenges of your work—but it will transform how you face them. Each journey fills you with perspective, creativity, and energy to return stronger and more inspired.

So, if you’ve been feeling drained or uninspired, maybe it’s time to step outside your routine. Book that trip, explore that city, or chase that waterfall. And as you do, remember to invite God into the journey. After all, rest and wonder were His ideas in the first place.

Because travel isn’t just about the places you see—it’s about how God uses those moments to reset your soul.
